Boston and Livingston were good to Phoenix

This weekend only two teams were in action this weekend. 18 Red at the Mizuno Boston Volleyball Festival and 15 Red playing up at Livingston 16 Club.

15 Red decided to test themselves by playing in a 16s tournament at Kushner and the ladies rose to the challenge. In pool play the team which was missing 2 of their team members played the 10 sets and finished 2nd to advance to the bracket playoffs.  In the playoffs, Essex 16 Black was waiting after finishing 1st in Pool B. The ladies run ended in the Semifinals but finished tied for 3rd on the day. Coach Annie stated after the tournament  "we play really well when we are the underdogs". Their next tournament will be in Lancaster, PA area for the Irish Rumble.

Boston was home for the 18 Red squad as Coach Jamie led her team in to the 18 American Division tournament. This is one of the newest 3 day tournaments and a great opportunity to test the young team. On Friday, 18 Red only won one match as they defeated Alliance 18s Matrix. This secured a good seed headed to the Consolation Bracket.

Saturday 18 Red played very well as they swept through the day winning all sets to go 6 and 0 on the day. The last pool play victory was especially sweet as 18 Red defeated GEVA rival Rogue Warriors 18 to head to Flight 1.

On Sunday, the ladies were looking to finish 17th and came out strong defeating Alliance 18's Hurricanes in 2 sets setting up a match for 17th place. 18 Red started out strong and won the 1st set 25-20 but the second set went to overtime and 18 Red lost 28-26 to go to the 15 point tie brake set. Kent County 18 1 was just too much for our ladies as the deciding set went to overtime 16-14. Final finish for 18 Red was 18th and the 5th best GEVA squad in 18 American. They have a week off until March 19th.
