18 Gold gets off to a nice start

4th place finish for our top team

Our oldest team 18 Gold is also one of our newest teams to the Phoenix Volleyball NJ family.

Coach Don who also coaches at Kean University brings along 2 players from Saint Peter's Coaches Brittany & Kristina to complete his staff. The team practices out of Kushner in Livingston. This team is comprised of a host of newcomers with 4 Juniors. Only one player has prior experience with Phoenix Volleyball NJ, Sr. Haili Nelson.

After a scrimmage with 17 Red the week before, 18 Gold was ready for action in MD. The ladies were chosen as the # 1 seed for the 17 - 18 Girls Division. The team got off to a slow start by losing in 3 sets to Pitt Elite Black 17. The team quickly recovered in defeating MDJRS 17 Reg and Evolution 17 -2 each in 2 sets earning the 8 seed as they moved to bracket play the next day.

As bracket play began across the net was a familiar foe, Phoenix 17 Red, a team that the ladies just scrimmaged a week earlier.  18 Gold advanced in the tournament with a 25-20 25-20 match victory to see Pitt Elite Black 17 awaiting their arrival. The ladies did not fare any better in this match as the team lost in 2 sets to set up a bronze medal match with PEVBC 18 Blue. 18 Gold finished in 4th place after losing to PEVBC in 2 sets and lost only to teams that finished ahead of them in the standings.

A great showing for the team that has been together for 2 months. A bright future lies ahead as there next opportunity to play will be GEVA 18 Open # 1 on February 8.
