Undermanned but determined

17 Black is a determined team and will make some noise before this 2015 season is over. Coaches Taylor and Kaitlyn have a mix of Sophomores and Juniors on the squad who are working hard to get their rotations & responsibilities correct. As I observed their practice a few weeks ago, the ladies were getting along very well considering that many of these ladies did not have the luxury of playing together on the same Phoenix team last year. I feel this team will make the most progress as they move along in 2015.

The start at the MD MLK Challenge was not a good one as they opened against the 4 of the top seeds in the tournament. Additionally, all of the teams 18 years of age.

Day 2 was a better day and the finish was sublime. 17 Black took the 1st set against the home standing MDJRS 18 Open Black team but lost in 3 sets. The next match was against MDJRS 17 Red and the Ladies won their 1st match of the season 27-25, 25-22 to advance one more round. In their tournament finale, 17 Black gutted out a 3rd set victory after falling behind 1 set to Zero over Evolution 17-2. These 2 victories made the ride back to NJ a lot easier and will also give a team confidence that they are getting better every time they take the floor.

17 Black has their next competition at Kean University on February 1 at GEVA 17 Club 1.
